Sreenivasan Law Chambers

Sreenivasan Narayanan S.C.

Managing Director

Profile

Sreeni’s father was an interpreter in the High Court and at the Police Courts. Growing up on legal anecdotes and a strong inclination to steadfastly stand for what he believes in, access to the law and due process, it was inevitable that he ended up as a lawyer; despite a strong science and mathematics bent.

Sreenivasan Chambers LLC has been the cherished dream of Sreeni, allowing him to focus on quality work with an attention to detail, giving up the distractions of managing a large firm.

Sreeni started his working life in 1985 as a Legal Service Officer in the Singapore Legal Service, having been given the opportunity to obtain his LLB (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore on a Public Service Commission scholarship. Entering private practice in 1990, he has practiced extensively across various fields that include commercial litigation, civil litigation, international arbitration, restructuring and reorganization, criminal and regulatory matters.

Sreeni was a founder and Managing Director of Straits Law Practice LLC, before its merger with K&L Gates LLP in 2019, where he was Managing Director. Sreeni was appointed as Senior Counsel by the Chief Justice in 2013. He is a fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of the UK and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators.

In terms of non-legal experience, Sreeni has served as Chairman of mainboard-listed Q&M Dental Group, from its listing in 2009 to 2024. He also serves, since 2014, as a director of First Ship Leasing Trust, a listed shipping business trust. Through these roles and with his in-depth experience as a disputes lawyer, Sreeni has acquired significant knowledge and experience in corporate governance, SGX and SIC compliance issues, acquisitions and divestments, recruitment and remuneration of senior management and dealing with the inevitable problems that listed companies face from time to time.

Sreeni was the first secretary of the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA). Over the past 30 years, he has served as Treasurer and an executive board member / executive committee member / council member of the Law Society of Singapore, the Singapore Heart Foundation, the Singapore Red Cross, the Law Society’s Pro Bono SG and the Singapore Business Federation Foundation. In these organisations, Sreeni contributed extensively not only in terms of programmes and hands on work but also in terms of compliance, audit supervision and human resource issues. He has also served on the Resource Panel of the GPC on Education, the Criminal Law Advisory Committee and the Home Detention Advisory Committee.

Sreeni has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the Singapore Red Cross and the Public Service Medal (PBM).

Sreeni is active as a pro bono volunteer lawyer since 1990 and as an advocacy trainer for lawyers at all levels since 1993, both in Singapore and elsewhere in the Commonwealth. Training and mentoring have been pillars of Sreeni’s professional life.

Sreeni is married with four children, two grandchildren and a dog. His interests are current affairs, politics and online chess.
